Bobby's Beautiful Bugs
Made in ~48 of the 72 allotted hours for LD56 -- the "tiny creatures" theme really stumped us this time around. Art inspired by Space Sandwich's Insecta palette.
Help Bobby sort his bug collection in this solitaire variant. The default setting is what we found to be the most balanced gameplay, however the Brainy preset is definitely worth a go...or ten. Customize gameplay to be easier by reducing [cards per suit] or increasing [columns], and vice versa to increase difficulty.

Hey! I absolutely love this game, I just have one pet peeve (and possibly a bug? But that could be just me reading things wrong), and it's cards just automatically sorting themselves once possible. I really enjoy taking my time and that moment of realization when I can start chaining cards together, and that automatic sorting really takes me out of it... I unchecked the "auto cascade" box in the options menu but it keeps happening. Regardless of if it's a bug or not, I thought it'd hopefully be helpful feedback. Still, I can only give you props for making this, the art is amazing and the gameplay is as simple as it's charming, it's right up my alley :)
Thanks so much, glad you enjoy! Yeah, auto-cascade is for automatically moving the remainder of a stack between the free-cells and the board, flipping ascending <--> descending (the gif in last dev log shows it better than I can explain).
I hear you about the auto-stacking, it definitely feels better when you're the one to notice the next card in the chain! That being said, I don't think we can easily add a toggle for that specific behaviour, cause the auto-stacking enforces a nuanced rule with "locking-in" stacks starting from A unless you have enough other free-cells to "unstack" yourself. It unfortunately wouldn't be easy to replicate with manual stacking, but I'll add it to the idea list in case we decide to add more games modes in the future x)
Hey I've noticed an issue where at times the screen or sometimes single elements will bug out. They'll like, flicker and stuff. Refreshing, leaving the site, and restarting my device doesn't seem to help.
Try downloading! It could be a browser-specific issue that we don't have control over
Hi, I loved your game. One bit of feedback: I'm slightly colorblind, and the green and yellow suits are hard to tell apart from color alone. Not much of an issue when you can see the faces/pips, but when just the number is visible in the stack, it can be kinda hard to tell which suit exactly it is. Perhaps tweaked colors, or the ability to peek at the face of a card further in the stack would have been a helpful touch.
Very good point, thanks! We'll add it to the to-do list for the next update
uhhhhh not sure how i did that? i think i accidentally clicked and dragged a card briefly while they were auto-stacking
made the game unwinnable, i couldnt draw any of the non-stacked green cards onto the pile, and i couldnt fix the blue cards because removing the king auto-stacks him back on
oh well! i adore this game to pieces, i love a good solitaire
Thanks for bug report!

Ho boi I wonder if there's an easter egg for doing 999 games!
As you can see, I am having a great time :) This has become my go-to game for keeping my hands busy while on calls or in meetings hahah
woah, that's actually insane! I guess I have to make an easter egg now, oh no, you've forced my hand :) Hopefully we can get the update out before you reach 1k xD
hahah, didn't expect anyone to get stuck on solitaire? After the popularity of windows' solitaire game, too? And this one even has really gorgeous bug pixel art! I love the bees especially, the artwork is so delicate and so accurate. Very pretty!
I actually got here through your postal service game, which is also very fun on endless mode. I guess I just like sorting visually appealing things ;)
Haha, fair enough! Thanks so much <3
I actually held off on going for 1000 wins (and started working on brainy ones instead) since you said you'd add an easter egg. Now that the update came in, I finished up… and it's SO cute <3
My favorite bug, too!! Lovely pixel art as always, and now i have a delightful little friend to look forward to when I win!
Thanks! <3
WOW! After playing for a few months, I noticed for the first time that slots can be stacked with consecutive cards starting from any number (not just Aces)!
Before that, I only temporarily stored one card in each slots :)
BTW, I use windows tablet to play this game and it works well on touch screen, thanks a lot for this game!
After getting this tip, I found that I could successfully complete the brainy
Thanks, happy to hear it works well on a touch screen! The card stacking, totally unintentional xD but honestly, we kinda like it -- it adds a nice trade-off
It's a fun game, and I completed several rounds of it.
During the game, the first problem I encountered was that the Setting card needed to be returned to its original position in order to take effect. I didn't understand this principle until today, and I wanted to play a simple breezy, but I was dragging the Setting card -> selecting breezy -> dragging the Start card, so I actually completed several rounds of balanced.
Additionally, rapidly dragging the entire deck of cards around can mess up the deck, possibly clicking on a card in the middle of the deck during the process of restoring the deck,
Glad you had fun playing and thanks for the bug reports -- can't believe we overlooked overlapping the menu cards! Should get 'em fixed in the next update
wow very cool digitarum
I love looove the art style! it's so cozy and warm and just wonderfully made!
the only not-so-great thing is that almost every game has soft locked itself? I've messed with the settings to make it easier, but i think it feels a bit unfair and unrealistic for even the easiest mode to be 90% impossible to complete due to the random shuffling of the cards making it impossible to progress further? i don't know if it's possible to change the shuffling mechanism of the easy mode, but it would be amazing if it was possible?
but in saying that, i don't know a lot about coding, and even with the settings and stuff it's still a chill cozy game to play for hours lol. I'd still recommend this game to anyone <3
Thanks for the kind words! :) Yeah, 90% impossible doesn't seem right on the breezy mode -- just to clarify, are you utilizing the 4 top right slots to also temporarily store single cards that are in the way? Without doing that, it would definitely be way to hard to solve.
The cards are shuffled completely randomly atm, so it's very possible be dealt an impossible hand, especially on harder difficulties. That's a good idea to have an option to skew the shuffling, we can add that in the post-jam update but we'll have to wait until the ratings for LD are over in about 2 weeks.
omg i didn't know that we were actually allowed to use the 4 slots, i thought that was a bug or something lol. good to know that i wasn't accidentally 'cheating' XD
oh and it turns out that it wasn't just bad 'RNG' of the cards being dealt, i also just had to figure out different methods of sorting the cards. i can now play the hardest level >:D
but yeah there is the occasional game where it is straight up impossible to play due to the shuffling, but now that i've played this game for a few hours now, it's not that much of a big deal any more imo.
good to know tho, and thank you for responding so quick!
Haha, nice! :D
Beautiful pixel Arts!Really like the game.
